2011 NEMC Scholarship Winners

Zenani Greenwell is the 61st recipient of the prestigious Senior Girl's Honor Award. Zenani has immersed herself in Evanston Township High School academics, life and culture. She was a cheerleader, a member of the Quest mentoring program, on the Peer Jury and an ETHS Student Ambassador. Zenani also served as secretary and vice president for the ETHS NAACP and was a member of the Lighthouse Chapter of the National Honor Society. Her community and volunteer activities have been varied. She is a member of Youth Action Ministry, the IVY AKAdemy mentorship program for young African American women, has worked at the Second Baptist Church soup kitchen and shoe give-away program, the Crop Hunger Walk and helped organize the Ebony Ball. Her latest venture was participating in the McGaw YMCA production of The Wiz doing the hair and makeup for the cast. Zenani will pursue a degree in Political Science and Psychology at Howard University.

Emma Mihevc is the first recipient of the new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Scholarship. Emma won several awards while at ETHS including being recognized as an Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar, Math Department Award Winner and being named to the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the ETHS Student Ambassador program and the Varsity Club. By the time she graduated, Emma had exhausted the entire ETHS math curriculum. Emma was Team Captain of the Girls Soccer and Basketball Team. She will pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech.

The Joanne Murphy Trautwein Music Award was presented to Philip Lee. Philip is an accomplished cellist who served as first chair and section leader in the ETHS symphony orchestra. He has won numerous awards for his music playing and participated in many ETHS concerts and musical productions. Philip plans to attend the University of Rochester where he will study cello performance at the Eastman School of Music.
